Fjölmennur hópur frá Landspítala kynnti rannsóknir sínar á ráðstefnu meltingarlækna í Washington í byrjun júní 2018 en hún var haldin í svokallaðri Digestive Disease Week eða Meltingarsjúkdómaviku. Hópurinn vakti verðskuldaða athygli og rannsóknirnar þóttu framsæknar, metnaðarfullar og vandaðar.

Dr. Einar Stefán Björnsson leiddi hópinn en hann er annar tveggja yfirlækna meltingar- og nýrnadeildar Landspítala sem sinnir sjúklingum með almenn læknisfræðileg vandamál, nýrnasjúkdóma og sjúkdóma í meltingarfærum.
